Decline in Shale Regions

DECLINE IN SHALE REGIONS: The U.S. Energy Information Administration expects near-term decline in natural gas production in major shale regions: Natural gas production across all major shale regions in the EIA’s Drilling Productivity Report is projected to decrease for the first time in September. In each region, production from new wells is not large enough to offset declines from legacy wells, it said. http://1.usa.gov/1hftert

Comment by a campaigner:

the US EIA released a new report yesterday announcing the decline starting from September of shale gas production in major shale regions.
This is not a big surprise considering the major decrease of investments over the past few months, mostly due to the decrease of the international oil price, but it’s just nice to finally see it happening. After all these months (or years) spent at announcing it.
It remains to be seen if it’s an occasional or a structural phenomenon (without this oil price crisis, several experts were anyway predicting this gas production decline before 2020, oil production before 2017), but this news will surely put even more pressure on the shoulders of the oil and gas companies, overwhelmed by important debts
